You may quickly form an impression about someone’s feelings or where a situation is heading. The Ni–Fe pairing offers a way to explore this, provided you distinguish your interpretation from what the person has actually expressed.
Meaning and relationships
In type dynamics, INFJ combines dominant Introverted Intuition, Ni, with auxiliary Extraverted Feeling, Fe. Ni seeks an overall meaning; Fe considers values and relationships in a shared context. Feeling here does not mean a quantity of emotion. This framework does not confer a special ability to read minds.
When an impression becomes a story
A friend sends shorter replies. You imagine they are becoming distant and reinterpret earlier conversations accordingly. That is possible, but so are tiredness, limited time or an unrelated difficulty. The impression deserves examination, not automatic confirmation through every ambiguous detail.
Return to a question you can check
Describe the change you noticed and ask whether something has changed without imposing your explanation. The person must be free to answer differently or decline to talk immediately. This protects the relationship from assumed understanding. If INFJ resonates with you, use it to notice when checking is needed, not to reinforce confidence in your intuitions.

Try it in practice
Record a recent interpretation in two columns: observed facts and the meaning you gave them. Add two alternative explanations. If appropriate, ask the person a short question. Compare their answer with your hypothesis without trying to prove that you detected something hidden.
