INFJ: express a need before it turns into resentment

The INFJ collection · Passion Psycho · Lire en français
Two adults examine a paper landscape with a winding pathway.

Waiting for someone to notice your needs may seem to preserve harmony. Yet a silent expectation is difficult to understand. Making it explicit creates a chance to discuss a practical adjustment before frustration accumulates.

Name a specific situation

Instead of “you never pay attention”, describe an observable event: a meeting overran or a task was added without consulting you. Always and never often shift discussion towards exceptions. A bounded situation gives both people a starting point to which they can add information.

Separate the need from your preferred solution

You may need preparation time without requiring every request a week in advance. Explain the need, suggest a realistic solution and allow an alternative. This does not mean accepting anything. A clear boundary can remain firm without accusing someone of bad intentions.

Check the agreement

“Okay” can conceal different expectations. Clarify what will change, when and how to report a difficulty. The INFJ profile may prompt reflection on harmony, but it does not mean you must anticipate everyone else’s needs. Your own needs must be known to become part of the discussion.

Try it in practice

Prepare a simple request: “When this happens, it makes… difficult. I need… Could we…?”. Afterwards, record the concrete agreement rather than your general impression. Revisit it if your expectations still differ.
