A practical trial may show that a solution works without explaining why. Ti–Se offers a way to examine the move between direct observation and understanding a mechanism. The distinction matters when you want to reproduce a result elsewhere.
Coherence and present observation
In type dynamics, ISTP combines dominant Introverted Thinking, Ti, with auxiliary Extraverted Sensing, Se. Ti concerns internal coherence; Se attends to available concrete information. The model does not imply that an ISTP is necessarily skilled with their hands, athletic or uninterested in abstract ideas.
A successful result can have several explanations
You change one step of an exercise and finally get the expected result. Before concluding that this explains everything, check whether other conditions changed: data, instructions or sequence. Success is an important observation, but it does not automatically distinguish hypotheses. Repeating the trial with one difference makes interpretation more precise.
State the rule you think you discovered
Explain the mechanism briefly and name its limit. If you can only demonstrate the action, identify what the explanation still lacks. You do not need a long account, just enough to make the method transferable. If ISTP resonates, examine this connection without reducing yourself to one way of understanding.

Try it in practice
Choose a small, risk-free problem. Write your hypothesis, change one element and observe the result. Repeat under a slightly different condition. State what you can explain and what remains uncertain instead of concluding only that the method works.

THE ISTP COLLECTION
Five perspectives to explore
- ISTP: connect Ti and Se to understand what works
- ISTP: turn a successful exercise into genuine understanding
- ISTP: make your reasoning visible without explaining every detail
- ISTP: know when a trial is enough and when more checking is needed
- ISTP: keep your autonomy while making commitments predictable
